Flying shear machine is a kind of shearing machine, the moving rolling piece of transverse shear.  The flying shear machine is mainly used to shear medium and small billets, thin slab, small section steel (bar) and hot rolled and cold rolled strip steel (including coating).  It is also used for cutting the edge of the plate cut off by the disc shearing machine (i.e. the edge breaker).

Due to the characteristics of flying shear machine can be transverse shear rolling pieces.  The fixed length flying shears should ensure good shearing quality, that is, the fixed length is accurate, the cutting surface is neat, and the fixed length adjustment range is wide, at the same time, the fixed length flying shears should have a certain shear speed.  Therefore, the structure and performance of flying shears must meet the following basic requirements in the shear process:  

(1) the quality of the shear section should conform to the relevant provisions of national standards for rolling pieces that can be shearing and moving.  The flying shear machine is required to have a reasonable shear mechanism.  

(2) can cut the rolling piece into the specified length, and can cut a variety of fixed length in the same flying shear machine, dimensional tolerance in line with the provisions of the national standard (for cutting head flying shear requirements can be accurately cut in the specified parts).  This requires that the flying shear machine has an accurate length adjustment mechanism.  

(3) Can meet the requirements of mill or unit productivity.  

(4) The speed of flying shears must adapt to the speed of rolled parts to ensure the quality of rolled parts and prevent equipment accidents.

There are many types of flying shears used in production.  

According to the parts of flying shears, it can be divided into flying shears and fixed size flying shears.  

According to the temperature of the cut rolled pieces, there are hot shear and cold shear.  

According to the relative position of the two blades, there are also parallel blades, oblique blades and disc blades.  

According to the structure form and blade movement mode of flying shear, it can be divided into many kinds, and with the development of modern high-speed rolling mill, new flying shear constantly appear, widely used are: disc flying shear, rotary rotary flying shear, pendulum flying shear, horizontal flying shear and so on.
